Memory Landscapes
NAT MAKS explores a new technique and process, augmenting the Suminagashi practice to create individual and contemporary ’memory’ pieces. Born out of leftover oil inks on the water surface, in these works the paper is placed in the bath at the very end of the inks life. Rather than cleaning the water for the next print run NAT MAKS captures these abstract images. In this way the piece has absorbed the memory of the completed process. Each piece is totally individual and irreproducible.
