Louise Frances Smith is an artist living in Margate, primarily working with clay. Since 2020, she has been using local materials in her work to deepen the connection between her art and the landscape where she takes inspiration. This led to working with waste materials and creating biomaterials. She will continue this research for a new body of work to be shown at Collect 2023, focusing on two non-native species thriving due to climate change. Sargassum Tide will include a sewn hanging installation of wireweed seaweed bioplastic, and a cabinet of objects made from crushed Pacific oyster shells. Smith will create work that reflects unnoticed details in our landscapes and invites viewers to look closely at our own environments.
