Innovative woven designs created both on and off the loom.
Woven/Unwoven presents the work of a weaver in her prime. Laura Thomas is a textile innovator who explores the structural and expressive capacities of thread on – and off – the loom.
For Laura this is an ongoing intellectual, technical and creative journey of enquiry and experimentation. Helen Rees Leahy (extract from Woven/Unwoven catalogue) ‘This exhibition represents a distillation of all my areas of interest in working with thread, making both woven and unwoven works. The transformation of passive threads, metaphors for fate, held taut on a loom to be woven into a fabric or placed into position to be encapsulated in glass or resin, has kept me transfixed for over two decades and is at the very root of this collection of work.’
Laura Thomas Makers Guild Wales is delighted to host this fabulous exhibition of woven textiles by one of it’s guild members. Laura joined the Guild in 2004 and has made such a positive contribution to the organisation through her craft practice and dedication to our educational exhibition programme.
Woven/Unwoven is a Ruthin Craft Centre initiated exhibition. ACW supported.
