Interwoven: Neurodiversity and the creative mind
Christopher Kelly

This piece is a physical representation of my internalised need for code switching. Crocheted from Jute twine.
A willow woven basket is disabled by the distension of a crochet form. The two elements become interwoven, communicating the hypersensitivity and overwhelm I experience as a Neurodiverse person. The monochromatic materials are selected to bring peace to an overstimulated mind.
The discarded chair is a symbol of the dis/functional. This family heirloom is enveloped with crochet and macrame and hung to communicate the differently functional, the neurodiverse experience. The raw quality of Jute twine becomes naturalistic when crocheted adding a quality of life to the architectural form of the chair.
